FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you the right therapist for me?
A: I offer a free phone consultation before our first appointment, but the only way to know for sure is to schedule a session. Most people have a good sense of whether I am the right professional to help them within the first two sessions.
Q: Who do you work with?
A: I work with individual adults, kids/teens, and families via telehealth (phone or audiovisual dependent on need and preference) to all counties in NJ.
Q: What can I expect from therapy?
A: Once you have made the decision to see a therapist, you may still feel apprehensive. That is totally normal as many people feel nervous before their first session. Therapy is a collaborative process, but you will guide it and determine where we go. I do not have answers to all your concerns, but I will listen carefully and ask thoughtful and sometimes challenging questions. Your answers to these questions will help shape the direction of our work. You can expect to be respected. You can expect that I will offer opinions and suggestions from time to time, but that I will not tell you what to do.
Q: What happens during the first session?
A: The first session is the time for you to start sharing your story and talking about your goals. Another important part of the first session is deciding if we are a good fit. Do I seem like someone you can trust? Do you feel comfortable talking to me? We are establishing a relationship that will become the foundation for working together.
*I will email you an intake questionnaire and other required forms when you schedule your first appointment. Please provide completed forms ahead of your appointment so that this does not interfere with scheduled session time.
Q: How long does a session last?
A: Sessions are 53 minutes, with 7 minutes reserved for clerical responsibilities. This is the standard length of a psychotherapy session. If you are interested in a longer session please contact me regarding availability and pricing.
Q: How often will we meet?
A: To start, we will meet once weekly. It is important to gain some momentum in the beginning of the therapy process by meeting weekly or progress can unfortunately stall out. Meeting less often makes sense after some of your goals have been met.
Q: Can we meet virtually? Do you provide online therapy, or teletherapy?
A: Yes. we will meet via a telehealth platform.
Q: How long does treatment last?
A: Treatment is very individualized, so the length depends on why you are seeking out therapy and what your goals are. Treatment may span several months or a year depending on your needs.
Q: How much do you charge?
A: I charge $150 per 1 hour session. Payment will be collected at the time of service. I use Square to charge credit and debit cards remotely.
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: No, I do not accept any insurance. I will collect payment in full from you at the time of service. If you want to submit a claim for potential out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide you with a Super Bill once monthly for you to submit to your insurance, to help facilitate any reimbursement you may be entitled to. Please note that submitting an insurance claim means I will need to give you a mental health diagnosis. I would suggest contacting your insurance before our first session to clarify what your out-of-network benefits are.
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: 24 hour cancellation allows time to be used for others. I require 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will be billed for the full session time. It is important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
Q: Do you prescribe medication?
A: No, I am not a medical doctor. Many of my patients find medication is helpful but many of them also progress well in therapy without medication. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication or a need arises throughout treatment, I can coordinate care with your doctor.
